I remember in December it was cold and wet and gray
And I hope you keep the peat fire burning for to keep the chill away
From the lounge room and the bedroom you need warmth this time of year
Don't think I could live in Ireland I've got used of living here.
On this the first day of summer it's a warm and balmy day
And the silver gulls are calling o'er the cliffs above the bay
And butterflies of many colours flit above the sunlit flowers
They make our life span seem eternal they grow old in forty hours.
I recall the Irish winter weeks of storms and cold and rain
And the sleety showers of December swelled the rill and stream and drain
And days before and after Christmas old Clara wore his hat of snow
Far north in Millstreet in Duhallow where the Finnow waters flow.
Here where the timeless Powlett river whispers downhill towards the sea
And the butcherbird is piping on the sunlit wattle tree
I feel happy and contented and the climate suits me fine
For I love the warm weather and the beautiful sun shine.
I wish you a happy Christmas and a wonderful New year
And I hope your weather is not too cold it is warm over here
And on this the first day of summer there is warmth in the breeze
And the sun is brightly shining it is 25 degrees.
