Some famous poets lived most unhappy lives and their broken dreams broken beyond repair
And some ended their lives in mental homes with their memory gone and they looking the worst for wear,
One might say their fame to them of little use though famous poets are and were always rare
And three who had mental illnesses spring to mind William Cowper, Ivor Gurney and John Clare.
Some famous poets led reclusive lives they kept indoors and seldom went outside
They were not even known on their own street and yet their poems were known and read worldwide,
Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Emily Dickinson come to mind their common link to be withdrawn and shy
They wrote their poems in their secluded rooms and never ventured in the public eye.
Some famous poets died at their own hands and poets who died in this way were not few
Life for them became unbearable so they took their own lives Ann Sexton and Sylvia Plath were two
Who decided to take their own lives but in their poems they still live on today
And they will always live on in their words whilst others from the memory fade away.
Some famous poets became victims of war Wilfred Owen, Rupert Brooke, Francis Ledwidge, Joyce Kilmer and John McCrae
These famous poets amongst the many famed war poets who did not live on to grow old and gray
And some poets paid too big a price for fame and though their fame live in their poems today
They did not know much happiness in life and for their fame a huge price had to pay.
