Old Rosa

Old Rosa by life feels disappointed she has earned her every gray hair
She cannot put her sad past behind her of knowing happiness she does despair
Her ex husband now with a younger woman for four decades she was his wife
But that does not leave her with love ache worse things than that have happened in her life.

Her two sons her only children died in a house fire in their twenties though since that night two decades in time has gone
'Tis something she has not got over the sense of loss in her lives on
The Reaper is one who is not ageist he sometimes lay claim on the lives of the young
Her sons they were decent young people and their praises deserve to be sung.

Old Rosa has just turned seventy with hair dyes she does not cover her gray
For her years she looks quite attractive she was a beauty on her day
She lives on the east end of the town in a one bedroom basement Council Flat
With the only friend she has in her life old Tom her ginger tabby cat.

For Rosa life is a great battle she still grieves for her sons Johnny and Dave
Though they have been dead for more than two decades she still places flowers on their grave
Alone with her cat and her memories at night she sits watching t v
With those who say life for some is not easy she is one who readily agree.
