The Wannon In Drought

The old Wannon river at a record low
Since records were first taken many decades ago
At Wannon falls near Hamilton a trickle of water fall
Slowly down the rock face under the concrete wall,
The farm dams almost empty and bone dry every drain
Though yesterday we did have two hours of heavy rain
El nino the thirsty one is still around
To suck up any surface water from the ground
And old Wannon river it flows at a crawl
On through the bare paddocks towards the waterfall
El nino the cruel one on the landscape severe
For the farmers financially a very bad year
It has been awhile now since the paddocks were green
And the old man say the river the lowest he has seen.
