There is scarce enough of grass here for to feed a hare
And the landscape has never been so dry and bare
And bone dry the creek and bone dry every drain
And the farmers are weary from crying out for rain
Just a hollow of dried mud where there once was a lake
And there's more than financial bankruptcy for many people at stake
For water birds, freshwater fish and amphibians it has been a very bad year
They need rivers, dams and ponds for to live and to breed
And the future for them it looks quite bleak indeed
El nino the thirsty one is hovering around
To suck every drop of moisture from the ground
And through the bare country the dry winds do blow
Where thistles and hardy weeds only do grow.
