The Selby Creek

The life support and sustenance of many a forest tree
It flows down through the undergrowth that reach up to the knee
From upper Selby through the wood by Puffing Billy track
The wood birds bathe in Selby creek and wash their wings and back.

To old gum tree by Selby Creek I heard the old man say
The fairies come when moon is up to dance and sing and play
He stood and watched them one bright night dance round the old gum tree
And he feels sure of what he's seen so sure he's convinced me.

The timid wallaby at dawn comes to drink at the creek
And then he hops through undergrowth safe hiding place to seek
And grey shrike thrush on wattle branch pipe dawn in with a song
And Selby creek through undergrowth goes babbling along.

The giant gum trees of Selby wood from creek block out sun shine
And the only place it sees the sun is by Puffing Billy line
From upper Selby through the wood it babbles night and day
Through undergrowth and tangled scrub it winds it's downhill way.
