Back in her homeland now 'tis spring and the house finches are is song
And in the parks of Rhode Island the bluebirds sing all day long
And the nostalgia in her is still strong especially in may
It's spring back home and birds nest and sing in the U S of A.
She has lived for twenty three years here slightly more than half of her life
And to the Australian fellow Brett she's a devoted wife
Their son and daughter nineteen and twenty years Isabella and Frank
But an Aussie Lily will never be she will always be a yank.
When the Olympic games were held in Sydney around two years ago
Each evening as she sat and watched it on T.V. her patriotism it did show
She supported every U S athlete and willed them on for gold
Nostalgia never seems to fade and it never does grow old.
Lily is an American and at this time of the year
The finches in Rhode Island woods she fancy she can hear
And there is no place like Rhode Island she has been known to say
And it is at it's loveliest when flowers bloom in the may.
