Why do I dream of places far away
The fields of Annagloor and Claraghatlea
The woodlands and the valleys and the streams
And those distant hills are always in my dreams.
I left those places many years ago
When Clara wore his hat of Christmas snow
And Finnow bank high in angry mood flowed brown
Through Inchaleigh just west of Millstreet Town.
Why do I dream of friends in bygone day
They live and work in places far away
We played football, met in the pub, drank beer
But I have not laid eyes on them for years?
I had good friends when I lived in Millstreet
But I wonder now if by chance we did meet
Would we despite lost years have common ground
Things can be different second time around?
My dreams I find so hard to understand
I brought them with me from another land
But I feel that nostalgia in me dead
The past is gone the future is ahead.
Why do I dream of places far away
When I can only look to future day
The meadows and the mountains and the streams
And my erstwhile friends are always in my dreams.
