The young man of the sixties tells of his glory days
On the day that his team won the flag he was singled out for praise
Shouldered by his team mates to the dressing rooms his goal had won the day
To the applause of the happy fans such memories never fade away
It was the highlight of his life he became the hero of the town
In the post game celebrations he was one who knew renown
The team were honoured in the town with a massive parade
But some forty years in time have passed since that big game was played
No longer the toast of the town old memories start to fade
Though to every surviving member of the famed winning team respect and honour paid
No longer a revered hero though he know local esteem
As one of the surviving members of a famous football team
But he still talks of how he kicked the goal that for his club won the big game
And of how he was shouldered from the playing field as the fans chanted his name.
