The Town's Old Diggers

They meet once a month in their Club in the Town
To talk of old times when they dreamed of renown
When they fought for their flag in a war far away
The years have left them looking weary and gray.

On the Town's old Diggers the Seasons do show
They now are the heroes of decades ago
And still in their dreams the gunfire they do hear
As they fight fire with fire of death they hold no fear.

To some of the youth of the Town they are men of the past
And few things in life ever do seem to last
The old talk of the past and the youth have their day
And the years come and go and time ticks away.

At the Returned Service League Club Rooms off of the Main Street
The old Diggers of the Town once a month do meet
To talk of the past and old memories to recall
Old age it eventually comes to us all.
