Since Homer's Time

We still live in the age of fearless heroes
The type who inspire some writers to story and rhyme
And we still honour dead and living legends
Things have not changed that much since Homer's time.

We still honour the dead and the living war heroes
Those who fought in the gap of danger without fear
And of sporting greats whose names may live forever
Their's are the stories that many wish to hear.

The stories of environmentalists and humanitarians
Are stories of which not many wish to read or know
They would much prefer to read of sporting victories
Or of war victories from many years ago.

The past has gone though the past us seems to follow
Our ancestors still rule us from the grave
We still look up to the Homeric type of characters
They possess what we look upon as brave.

Since Homer's time the changes have been happening
Though majority thinking one might say the same
We still look up to our Homeric type of heroes
The unenlightened for want of a better name.
