Scarlet Robins

A male scarlet robin on lower branch of tree
In the wood-land not many as pretty as he
With dark head and dark back and scarlet red breast
Lovely to look at but as a songster not one of the best.

Often see them in the wood overlooking the town
The female the plain one of light gray to brown
Like most female wild birds inconspicuous and quiet
Yet she's not unattractive when seen in the sunlight.

Three to four bluish purply blotched eggs the female bird lay
These birds i see often though not every day
Their nest hard to find for the creatures of prey
Camouflaged in high undergrowth or behind bark hidden away.

Familiar in his red breast and known by his quiet little song
The male scarlet robin one should not get him wrong
And the female the plain one in light brown to gray
These birds i see often though not every day.
