On An Email From Christine Gaunt

Christine Gaunt the woman who bought Steve and Annie Durie's house
I used to work for them before i moved to live near Mt Rouse
She emailed me about Steve and Annie's wombat Bob perhaps now in his prime
And living free in Kongwak and having a good time.

The Duries real nice people that i got to know well
And though i never met Bob his story to me they did tell
They raised him as an orphan and then they set him free
For to father more wombats in his territory.

Fond memories of the Duries and their property i have to recall
Their labradors Sam and Ben and their silky white bantam rooster the cheeky Snowball
With feathers to his toes he was as white as snow
To his bantam hens how proudly the little chap did crow

To many the hill at Kongwak is a familiar face
And Christine is a lucky woman for to live in such a place
Magpie the one with silvery bill pipes in the dawn of day
And the grey shrike thrush is whistling in Kongwak far away.

I wish Christine much happiness in her home on Kongwak hill
Fond memories of that scenic place with me will remain until
To the scythe of the reaper i eventually will fall
A memory of such great beauty a great memory to recall.
