Mokoan

A cockatoo outlives the oldest man
A century or more their average life time span
And Alison's year old bird she doesn't know yet a girl or boy
Has many years of life left to enjoy.

She found it by lake Mokoan it had fallen from the nest
The white down feathers were still on it's breast
A month old bird unable yet to fly
Had she left it there it would be either preyed upon or die.

A sulphur crested cockatoo not hard to tame
So she took it home with her to Wonthaggi and called it mokoan by name
It sits on her shoulder and as she drives along the street
Mokoan often on it's perch by her in the front seat.

On a few occasions from her shoulder Mokoan flew away
Only to return 'my friend for life she say'
The bird could have had it's freedom but to Ali remained true
As her faithful and devoted cockatoo.

To homeless mokoan a home Ali did give
And the bird her grandchildren could well outlive
For white cockies can live for a century 'tis said
And for mokoan a long life lay ahead.
