Government For The Wealthy

It's Government for the wealthy people only
There are no votes in caring for the poor
And the gap between the haves and the have nots keeps widening
And so many of their future feeling insecure.

The numbers of the poor is on the increase
And more people dying of hunger every day
And for god and land and oil men kill each other
And peace on earth seems centuries away.

In drought stricken and war ravaged lands the poor are starving
And every day their desperation grow
They cannot leave since they do not have money
They are the people with nowhere to go.

Suppose in many ways I'm very lucky
Though wealthier than I not hard to meet
I've never known what it feels like to feel hungry
For I've always had more than enough to eat.

We hear about the so called war on terror
But never of war against poverty
And every day the poor keep getting poorer
It seems so very ludicrous to me.

Things as bad now as in the middle ages
When men went to war for god in the guise of a crusade
And sad to think that we have not yet learned
A lesson from mistakes by our ancestors made.

It's government for the wealthy people only
The privileged few 'twould seem belong to god
And we only hear of the so called successful
But never of the poor and the downtrod.
