Have you ever seen the offspring of a cross between a sheep and goat
Of the parents in the young one you can see a bit of both
With the physical appearance of a goat and sheep strange as that may appear
Born of an act of Nature and in Nature of stranger things one does hear.
And anything in Nature is never a strange thing
A cross between a starling and a myna has a pleasant song to sing
But when humans tamper with Nature 'tis there the wrong comes in
Though some with their degrees on natural science respect for their work do win.
On what happens within Nature humans should not have a say
And leave Nature to Nature she does things her own way
Some results of Nature may seem quite strange to see
But what happens within Nature happens naturally.
Humans do not tamper with Nature leave Nature to her own device
Every time we tamper with her for to pay there is some price
The mad cow disease is one example when meat and bone to cows was fed
Just one of the many bad results of humans tampering with Nature one might say enough said.

Ignorance And Rudeness
Was it a foul smell from my direction that in the wind to them did blow
For they passed me by without speaking when to them i said hello
They seemed cold and unfriendly though them i did not know
At the strangeness of some human behaviour my wonder only grow.
Or are they short of hearing since they did not look my way
Though such instances in our daily lives we meet with every day
Without even once speaking from their lives me they did exclude
Some people can be ignorant as well as very rude.
Many words that end with ism i come across on every street
And racism and ageism i often seem to meet
Why some people are so up themselves i often wonder why
Their silence seems offensive as they ignore your greeting hi.
On the next time that i meet these two i will pay them less respect
And from appearing silly i will be more circumspect
The disrespect that they show to me in like i can repay
For ignorance and rudeness are games more than one can play.

The Good Guys
They are supposed to be the good guys the likes of Bush and Howard and Blair
But the damage they've created only time it can repair
With little provocation they went on the attack
They started with Afghanistan and now they are in Iraq.
They've put the Taliban to flight and they've overthrown Saddam Hussein
But Afghanistan and Iraq are basket cases and their wars have been in vain
Invading other Countries is never a good idea
They have not learned from the mistakes of past war history.
Bush, Howard and Blair the war men have surely got it wrong
They ought to know that invading weaker Nations is never glory to the strong
In Iraq people seriously injured and dying in suicide bombings every day
The war casualties keep mounting for war the price is huge to pay.
They are supposed to be the good guys though their casualties multiply
And those who talk of freedom to millions freedom do deny
The basic human right that is for to live free of fear
Each day more news of death and suffering from their wars we do hear.

Have You In Your Flights Of Fancy
Have you in your flights of fancy seen the fog roll down the hill
And heard the dipper singing in the babbling mountain rill
From it's birthplace by the mountain by many a hedgerow
For to join with the big river forever it does flow.
Have you ever visualized yourself back in your old Hometown
And old friends don't seem to know you they look you up and down
But they do not recognize you and them you too don't seem to know
And you ask yourself are they my friends from many years ago?
Were you ever in a bar-room on your own drinking a beer
But your mind it was off elsewhere midst the noisy atmosphere
Listening to the wren and robin and chaffinch and bullfinch sing
In the old grove by the river on a balmy day in Spring.
Have you visualized the otters playing in the river pool
They frolic in the water as they clown and act the fool
In Nature's own wild kingdom there is time for work and play
And more to life for an otter than sleeping and hunting prey.
Have you in your flights of fancy seen your old home by the stream
And in your visualization so real to you it did seem
With a good imagination you can travel far away
To the old town by the mountain where you lived for many a day.
And heard the dipper singing in the babbling mountain rill
From it's birthplace by the mountain by many a hedgerow
For to join with the big river forever it does flow.

This Is The Lucky Country
This is the lucky Country but not for everyone
Not for the grieving mother who has buried her young son
Left to die on the roadway in a case of hit and run
Not for her the lucky Country when all is said and done.
This is the lucky Country for the new tattslotto millionaire
For to scoop the big jackpot such luck indeed seems rare
And though others they may tell you for to win you must be in
So many have to lose out for one to have a win.
This is the lucky Country a well known politician said
And on his huge retirement pension he won't go short of bread
He also said in future decades no Aussie child would know of poverty
His prophesy is off the mark how very wrong is he.
This is the lucky Country or so we have been told
But not every gold prospector finds a big nugget of gold
And like the big tattslotto winners and their type are quite rare
So many must grow poorer for each new millionaire.

Jack Gleeson's Kelpie
Though little information on him in which to read
Jack Gleeson a young stockman founded the kelpie working breed
Of dog in Casterton in Victoria in eighteen seventy one
They rival the border collies as farm dogs next to none.
And who was this Jack Gleeson little of him i seem to know
He worked as a stockman in Casterton more than a century ago
He swapped a horse for a female pup off of the nephew of George Robertson of Warrock
Which gave rise to the kelpie breed dogs that round up the farm livestock.
In the great working dogs he gave rise to his fame lives on today
Though i know little about him and of where his bones now lay
But the dogs he gave to Australia they serve the farmers well
A good working dog of the kelpie breed is never hard to sell.
The warm outback of Australia seems to suit the kelpie fine
They can work cattle or sheep all day long in the hot Summer sunshine
The kelpies never weary even when the going gets tough
And always when put to the test they have proved good enough.
Jack Gleeson named his dog kelpie which means a malignant water sprite
Haunting the fords in streams in the shape of a horse when seen in the moonlight
He is the man responsible for the kelpie working dogs of today
But little else i know of him or where his bones do lay.

False Patriotism
That our Nation's sports women and men should be the best Worldwide
Has got nothing to do with our love of sport only false Nationalistic pride
'Tis not for their love of Country that individual sports people compete
But for their own self glory and for their own self conceit.
I've never waved a National flag though many in that see
The lack of patriotism that is evident in me
But am i any less silly than those who are passionate about a flag
And in someone else's glory what cause is there to brag.
The Nation's elite athletes and footballers i never do support
And if glory is only in victory then surely that's not sport
In true sport for the loser there should be an accolade
But only out of winners that heroes have been made.
And only to the winners go the applause and the cheers
The great Olympic champions may shed their joyful tears
But their jubilation is not for their Country only for themselves in their victory
A show of false patriotism that's how 'twould seem to me.
