Tony The Ex Digger

Nineteen years old still a teenager on the doorstep of becoming a man
He fought for two years in the late sixties in the dangerous jungles of Vietnam
He was one who displayed great courage where 'twould be easy to show fear
But if you talk of war to Tony he will pretend not for to hear
War has left it's mark on the aging fellow he looks more than sixty years old
Like many more who fought in war zones his story will never be told
He has finally conquered the curse of alcoholism an addiction that ruined his life
Because of alcohol the woman he loved she left him the one who would have been his wife
He never married or never fathered children he now lives in a one bedroom rental flat
He has drunk hard and lived and worked in many Cities one might say he's been there and done that
Tony the ex digger is a nice enough person though war on him has left it's mark
For sake of his health in the evenings he goes for a walk in the park
Courageous than him there's none braver he pulled back from self destruction brink
There are not many people like him who have conquered the demon of drink.
