The Old School On The Clara Road

Some-times i do recall the Clara road and the old Millstreet Primary School
Where often in the classroom i sat on the dunce's stool
Michael Corkery, Bill Keeffe and Dick Kiely were our teachers back then
The Schoolboys of the mid fifties like me now ageing men.

Some of my school mates married and fathered children and live in Millstreet still
And others went to live far from the Town by Clara hill
We share one thing in common we have known a better day
The years are catching up on us that's life as some do say.

The past has gone forever but the memories remain
And often in my flights of fancy i am back there again
In the school yard with my young mates in the lunch hour playing football
Or climbing on the cypress trees beside the old stone wall.

The changes keep on happening and nothing seems to last
And the old school on Clara road now a memory of the past
To the ageless fields by Millstreet Town the Seasons come and go
And life goes on as usual where the Finnow waters flow.
