When i was a young fellow in weather wet and dry
Willie Neenan ran on the tar roads beneath the starry sky
I hear he is still running he was a great athlete
Way back there in his glory days he was the one to beat.
When i was a young fellow and that is going back in time
The famous poet John Twomey was Duhallow's laureate of rhyme
But the wanderlust was in him and he went to live elsewhere
Yet he proved irreplaceable since his type are so rare.
When i was a young fellow a primary school going boy
The football games in the school yard was a thing i did enjoy
Toots Kelleher was in his prime then a Gaelic football great
May he rest in peace forever time for anyone doesn't wait.
When i was a young fellow Millstreet not that well known Town
But one enterprising fellow gave it far greater renown
His name is Noel C Duggan he is still going strong today
And the quiet Millstreet i grew up in is now a booming place they say.
When i was a young fellow Claraghatlea's own Dinny Owen
In Dail Eireann in Dublin he was one who was well known
May he rest in peace forever for nothing seems to last
And today i only live for though i do recall the past.
