Her name was Margaret Barry the Cork born travelling street singer
The sweet tones of her singing voice in memory ever linger
She sang only for love of song and not for wealth and glory
And her travels in Ireland and Britain have given rise to many a story.
She did not need a microphone for to be heard her singing voice was clear and mellow
A singing legend I recall when I was a young fellow
The singing tinker lady her nickname than her not many greater
Her voice on record it won't die so why not celebrate her.
In her early seventies in 1990 Margaret died her amazing life story ended
And in her marvellous singing career so many she befriended
People like her are not often seen the singing traveller's daughter
She made so many happy with her gift of song and she spread joy and laughter.
A heroine of my younger years and though I've seen many a December
The singing tinker lady is one I do remember
Often heard her on the radio the marvellous Margaret Barry
And still the clock keeps ticking time never seems to tarry.
