An Old War Veteran

He talked of the war that he fought in
A war that cost lives for to win
And to me his medal for bravery did show
From more than six decades ago

He looks younger than his age of eighty five
One of the lucky to survive
The war trenches from here far away
Few of his kind around today.

His head from the years hoary gray
A tough old bloke one well might say
This time last year his devoted wife
She lost out in her battle for life.

An easy life he has not known
And he now soldiers on bravely on his own
And old veteran of World war two
And a survivor for to give him his due.
