He still talks of that day in Dallas now over four decades ago
When Kennedy fell under gunfire a legend around him did grow
In Lightning Ridge he was mining for opals at twenty three and in his prime
But now he is in his mid sixties and he seems the worst of wear for time.
The day Kennedy died he remembers in Lightning Ridge 'twas a warm Spring day
Amazing how a big headline story as a memory till death with us stay
Though life it just goes on as usual and the people like the Seasons to life come and go
And the rill born in the high Country downhill to the river ever flow.
He has travelled much in the big Country one who has been there and done that
He has made roadways through outback north Queensland and laid sewerage pipes in Ararat,
A jackaroo as well as a shearer as well he's worked on many a City building site
By day he worked hard for his wages and he partied hard till late at night.
The day Kennedy died in Dallas is something till his own demise he will recall
The shock news went all around the World the supposedly immortal was mortal after all
He was mining for opals in Lightning Ridge so many years have passed since then
And he has found out from experience that in life one does not always win.
