The little brown and gray sanderlings I saw on the beach today
From their home in the Arctic in distance far away
Through the warm Spring and Summer on Australian beaches they will stay
But they will return to the northern shores to hatch to life their young in May
Such tiny things the sea wash in they seem to like to eat
That they quickly pick from the wet sand as the waves do retreat
And from the next incoming waves they quickly turn and run
What's amusing to look at for one like me to them can't be much fun
On the sunlit southern beaches in search of food they run about
It is one of Nature's wonders that they venture this far south
Of their breeding territories where for to breed they must return to again
The wonders of Mother Nature beyond humans to explain
My wonderment of Nature as I age only grow
And the more I learn about her so little of her ways I know I know.
