A Wet Night In The Country Town

The storm water drains gurgling the rain pattering down
On the galvanize roofs of the old country town
The streets are deserted not a human in sight
And the Town-park belong to the creatures of the night
The cry of the boobook owl echoes through the sky
He calls out mopoke on the dark gums nearby
The rain falling steadily in the freshening breeze
And the male brush tail possums snarling on the trees
In such a dry climate one ought not complain
About the wet weather a dark night of rain
We need every drop of rain in the Spring of the year
It's pattering on the roofs is so pleasant to hear
The streets are deserted the rain pattering down
On the galvanize roofs of the old country town.
