The Happy Town

Though you may be poor as starving cat
You'll find a welcome in Ballarat
It's Victoria's number one City
For good old Australian hospitality.

I have been to London and New York
And in Melbourne town did live and work
And they all have big town atmosphere
And their people haughty and austere.

But Ballarat's a different place
And it's people uncity like race
Will always make you feel welcome there
And better you'll not find anywhere.

If financially you've come unstuck
And you are way down in your luck
In Ballarat a friend you'll find
The people there are good and kind.

And Ballarat has won renown
As Australia's most historic Town
It was there Peter Lalor won his fame
And became a legendary name.

In the Eureka Stockade and Bakery Hill
The ghosts of heroes living still
And Sovereign Hill the town of gold
A hark back to the days of old.

In Ballarat on every street
A friendly person you will meet
And I'll remember my brief stay
In that old Town for many a day.
